Oracle8 Instance Auto-shutdown

I'm currently running Oracle 8.0.3 on a Windows NT Server with service pack 3.
I recently experience a similar crash. While running several deletes and inserts
on the database with an application I wrote in Pro C I ran into an error (which resulted from the data I was using). As a result of the error the Oracle instance
shutdown. I was able to bring the instance backup with svrmgrl using the force
keyword of startup. But I was unable to do a normal shutdown immediate/ startup open until I rebooted my server. Once the database was up I noticed that all of the
rollback segments had been placed offline. I'm new to Oracle and surprised by
its behavior. Can anyone provide an explanation ?? Received on Tue Apr 28 1998 - 14:24:01 CDT
