Oracle8 installation problems

When i try to install software from the Oracle 8.0.4 CD, the installation never really starts as the installation aborts in the initialization phase with the following error:

Win32.stp(547): Unbound variable ’installation settings’

I run Windows NT 4.0 (sp 3). I have installed Oracle Designer 1.3.2, Developer 1.5, Discoverer 3.0.8, Oracle Server 7.3 tools, Enterprise Manager tools etc. I think something is missing or "wrong" in the registry or whatever the problem is. Anyway, I really suspect that one part of Oracle Corporation are not aware of what the other part are doing, e.g. that the 8.0.4 installation is not compatible with the Designer installation.
