Re: 7.1 ---> 7.3 Upgrade Help

I recently upgraded four Oracle 7.1 servers on Digital Axp systems running Open VMS. Since the upgrade involved an upgrade of VMS form 6.2 to 7.1 it took some time, but with carefull preperation we were able to get the job done within 5 hrs per system. This time included the upgrade of VMS with several layered products, the load and link of Oracle 7.3.2 as well as the upgrade of two Oracle instances.

some clues:

• read the migration manual carefully !!
• use ORACLEINS to create the 'new' instance-environment (directory ORA_DB) with the startup-files the new version doesn't recognize the instances on 7.1.
• Alter your init.ora with the parameter: 'compatible = 7.3.0' otherwise you cannot mount your database
• The update scripts of the catalog, gives you a lot of crap on the screen. Ignore this and test carefully afterwards.

If you get any error messages during the 'startup restrict' of the instance, pointing at memory problems, check your priviliges on ORA_SGA. A security problem instead of insufficient memory !

I don't have any experience on Oracle apps.
