check your oracle alert.log and if there is an oracle core dump.  Also
check your trace file.  It could be a problem with your version. I have a
similar problem, I though it was the sqlnet, then the sqlplus and it turn
out to be a BUG!!!!!!. We upgrade to 7.3.3.
