I have a similar problem with an sql scripts that have been working for
years and in the version 7.3.2.3 it did not work.  It was creating an end
of comunnication channel problem and a database core dump.  It turn out to
be a bug. There is an alert in Oracle version 7.3.2.3 that can be related
to this problem.  Upgrade to 7.3.3.
