I agree- the optical solution is a much more stable medium over the long haul. And with CD-R's now in the $2 range nowadays, it's cheaper than 4mm tapes if all you're going to do is lock them away for archives.

The other bonus of WORM is that its a little bit harder to tamper with data on the storage medium without somebody noticing. Only a little, but its just one more reason.
