Server Patch

I am trying to patch Oracle Server 7.3.2.2.0 to 7.3.2.3.0 and I can't seem to make the upgrade work properly. I am very new to Oracle and my main difficulty is identifying the Server version no. The only way I can find it to look at what svrmgrl(m) or SQL*Plus report at startup up. With this method, when I apply the patch, which appears to complete successfully I still get the server version reported as 7.3.2.2.0.

Am I looking in the right place for the version number?
