A big thanks to all of you who responded directly to me. 'Debbie' ran into this issue as well, and she discovered that the 'USER' environment variable must be set for 'oracle', rather than 'root'. I'm not sure why Solaris does not set that variable correctly, 'cause I truly was logged in as 'oracle'. Anyway, use 'env' to see what that variable isset to and make sure it's correct.
