As suggested by other posts, you should know the process by now. You mentioned you are in a 24X7 shop. How is this table accessed by current applications? If it is getting rows added/updated quite often, then the creation of 2 separare tables may be affected. You do not want any changes occuring to this table while you are splitting it.
