Star Join Query in Oracle 8

Has anyone tried the new star join in Oracle 8? Is it "dramatically faster?"

From the Oracle white papers, the new star join seems to rely on finding the records in the fact table before joining to the dimension tables. Yet, in star queries that constrain on dimension attributes, it is necessary to first query on the dimension tables to determine the keys to lookup in the fact table. Thus it would seem that the Oracle 8 star join can only be used on a limited subset of star joins. Received on Tue Sep 02 1997 - 00:00:00 CDT
