SUN, Async I/O or Multiple DBWR's

I have a customer on a Sun that is running a bit slow and the I/O from a "sar -d" doesn't seem to be in line with the "% I/O" from the "sar -u"...

It's a 5-6 gig database running Async I/O. It has 4 processors, but as I said, if I add up the r/w from the various drives, I find that 47 r/w's can account for a % I/O of 35%. That seems to be a lot!

Can the Async I/O be set up in such a way as to make it perform badly, or is all of this "automatic" on the Sun? I know Oracle, 13-14 years worht, but am not that familiar with the Sun internals.

Please also reply to "mkline_at_dbsol.com" if you would.

Thanks.
