Intelligent Agents

I'm pretty new to Oracle (as I'm sure this question will backup!) so please bear with me.

I am having great difficulty in getting Intelligent agents to run on our Unix machine. We're using 7.3.3 and as far as I'm aware, all of the correct config files are in place (tnsnames.ora, listener.ora). When I try to start the agent from lsnrctl with the command dbsnmp_start I get a couple of lines of Oracle copyright and am then returned to the prompt.

Using dbsnmp_status tells me that the db subagent is not active.

The standard listener is working and I can log on to the machine through SQLNet with no problems.

Any one point me in the right direction?
