Multiple Instances can be done using the /etc/oratab file (sometimes in /var/opt/oracle/oratab) along with the oraenv and dbhome scripts that are supplied in the $ORACLE_HOME/bin directory.

The $ORACLE_HOME, $ORACLE_SID variables must be set correctly and the $ORACLE_HOME must be correct in your $PATH variable for everything to work well.
