How to store BLOBs, Images etc in a database ?

Hi! I have always wondered how you can store images, BLOBs in a database ? Do you store them in tables like you would normally ? Could someone please show me a piece of syntax that would help me with this! If you store them in the database how would you retrieve and display them ?
