Bill,

to edit a controlfile you have to do following: 1. alter database backup controlfile to trace;

   this will produce a create controlfile statement in the trace    directory.

2. Edit this trace file
3. start your database with the nomount option
4. run your create script

after this steps you will have new controlfiles.

WARNING : Backup controlfiles before you change this files
