I have had my Oracle Education DBA Masters Certificate for several years now and thought a nice way to round off my resume would be to get certified. I spent long hours prepping and intended to take the test at IOUG-A in Dallas last week. But guess what? The testing was canceled. Of all the time/place to cancel it. I’m sure 100’s of people like me intended to take the test and ended up with nothing but a bad attitude to show for it.
Needless to say I will never, never again consider taking the exam. An employer may raise an eyebrow when they see the word “certified” on a resume, but what really counts is a good interview. Don’t waste your time on prepping for the exam. Crack open the Oracle7 Server Concepts and Administrator’s Guide’s and prep for that interview.
As a side note, always be prepared to name “ALL” the Oracle background processes, what they do, and when they do it, “IN DETAIL”. I have asked this interview question to many DBA candidates and have found it separates the true DBA’s from the DBA wanabee’s.
