Danger Island Adventure - looking for failover replication & stuff

Hidee, folks,

We're looking for some failover/redundancy options for both our Oracle WebServer 2.0.1 and Oracle RDBMS 7.2.3.

Mixed platform: WinNT3.51 and AIX4.1.

Ideally, we'd like to put multiple WebServers on a rotary "round-robin" mechanism, to balance traffic loads and compensate for failures.

Plus, we'd like to put the RDBMSes on a replication mechanism, such that if one fails its "clone" assumes the alias/DCD/synonym of its dead brother. This would make it transparently available to the WebServers, which are quite insensible to the concept of database redirection.

If y'all have any recommendations or horror stories about such mechanisms, I'd be grateful for a note.

This is a "Danger Island Adventure", fer sure. <%:-)

Later,
