Aslong an application is client server, you will have this problem. The life
cycle of a server-OS is much longer as a client OS. Especially if you have a
stable application with many clients and with oracle as a stable database
server the database release will not be replaced by the customers even
oracle stops the support.
But on client side, if you by a modern hardware, you meanwhile do not get NT
or Win2K or XP.
I do not say Oracle is guilty or MS, we as software developer has look for
solutions.
Coming back to the problem, If you have to support different oracle releases
(8i is meanwhile getting replaced) you have to compile packages for each
releases. And as I understand you, there is no way other than having a
machine for every OS (I have it but I do not like to go to three machines
for only compiling the source code).
Kind regads
