Great stuff. Slightly out of date, as things have changed (a lot) since 1992, but still absolutely wonderful to see people referencing the manuals.

However, unless you are using Oracle Server 7, this information is obsolete. As of Oracle8, the ROWID has changed: the format has changed and the interpretation has changed. It has changed again with Oracle Database 10g.

Best you give a description of the Operating System version and the Oracle database version.
