different sort behaviour of 8i and 9i

Hi all,

it noticed that Oracle 8i sort behaviour is different from 9i. The german umlauts are ordered correctly (in an alphabetical order) in 9i but not in 9i. Is it possible to get the 9i sort mechanismn in 8i as well? How?
