Major details are missing. What command are you running, and what error do you get?
I was never a Novell administrator, so forgive if this is a dumb question, but is the Oracle server itself (the instance) running under Novell, or is Novell simply hosting the filesystem where the datafiles are via the network? (I don't know if there was an Oracle v7 for Novell...) Can you set your ORACLE_SID and do a version 7 command such as "svrmgrl ... connect internal" ?
