Hi there,
I know I shouldn't post this question here. I tried on another news group, but got no answer. Please excuse me.
As I am mainly trying to do the Cold Backup, I would say there are lots of experienced experts here that could help me out.
I am using Windows 2000's Backup utility to do cold backup of Oracle database file. When I backup about 120G of data files to a DLT tape, it takes about 3 hours. This average to about 40G per hour. But when I backup about 30G of data files to another disk, it takes about 56 minute. This is strange to me. I thought I can, at least, double the speed when switching from tape to disk. However, the test tells different story.
The disks and DLT tape are of SCSI interface. The Disks are on RAID 1 configuration on a four port RAID Controller. The DLT tape is also mounted externally to the RAID Controller.
I am looking advices from some one that use WIndow's Backup Utility to backup data files. I want to find out their bench mark backup rate. Will there be some kind of setup that can speed up the Backup to disk process ? Or do I need different kind of utility, like Veritas ?
Thanks in advance
