writer_at_writemaster.com,
I am newish to Oracle, have had a few classes, and use it some at work. Yes, Oracle does not seem as graphical/user friendly as Access. I am not an expert on all the versions, but if you installed DBA Studio, that gives you graphical info about your database, sizes, statistics, users, etc. To graphically edit/create tables, I think you need the enterprise manager.

When you installed Oracle, it might have asked you if you want to install a demo or starter database. You probably should have done this just to mess around. Of you had done this, you could go into SQLplus and get a command line type window where you can enter SQL. It would prompt you for
USER: SCOTT (This is a default user)
PASSWORD: tiger (This is Scott's default password) HOST STRING: (THis is the name of your database instance)(maybe called DEMO, STRT, etc)

SQLPlus won't do much for you unless you know a littel SQL. Get a book or guide from the net and play around with a few of the tables that SCOTT owns.

To create a database, you need the Database Assistant (I have never used this) or you can create one by hand (Not an easy task if you are unfamiliar to Oracle). To do it by hand you need a parameter file and need to know what values to assign all the parameters.

Hope this helps,
