Help: startup oracle instance

Hi,

I am new to oracle !
Please help me to start oracle instance. How can if fix this error.

SVRMGR> connect sys/oracle as sysdba
Connected
SVRMGR> startup pfile=$ORACLE_HOME/dbs/init.ora ORA-27102: out of memory
SVR Error: 22: Invalid argument
