converting a binary coded decimal (bcd) into decimal

Hi,

we are using an old-fashioned financial application which does stupid things like storing multiple figures in a single char column and even harder, the figures are stored as bcd's (binary coded decimals).

Does anyone have a package/procedure/function to encode those figures to simple decimals?
