Converting from Client 7 to Client 8

I am new to Oracle and have been asked to come up with a plan to convert our users from Client 7 to Client 8. The users are using MS Access as a front end and connecting with ODBC. We have four instances of Oracle, Development, Test, Training, and Production. I have been told that we will need to relink all of our tables and views when switching between instances. This seems like such a pain. Is this true? Is there any work arounds? Also, I am using Lotus Notes to query and update some tables, again using ODBC. Will I need to switch these clients also? What if I am only quering data with Lotus Notes, will I need to switch the clients?

If this is the wrong forum for these questions, please point me to the right one.
