I have been using 8.0.5 client software on my app server to connect to
various Oracle databases in my company. Last week, our network admins
decided to migrate the server to a new box and wanted me to reinstall the
software fresh. The only CD I could find was 8.1.7, which has turned into a
problem. After I installed the software using the "user" option, I copied
over the tnsnames.ora file from my other box and put it in the admin folder
like usual. I wanted to test the connections, so I went in to the Net8
Configuration Assistant. I chose Local Net Service Name configuration, then
Test, then I was presented with a drop down list of all of the services in
my tnsnames.ora file. Each one tested Ok. However, when I go into SQLPlus
on that same machine and try to login to any of them, I get various errors,
most of which are TNS - Can't resolve service name. I don't understand why
it would test ok in the Configuration Assistant, but be unable to resolve
the name in SQLPlus. Can anyone help please?
Thanks,
Axl
