Listener and user identified externally

Hi,

first of all: yes, I know this is somewhere in a manual but I can't find it, so I would be grateful if somebody could help me (or just tell me where exactly I can find the information).

I have a listener and can connect to the server with a login and a (oracle) password (sqlplus for example).

What must I do to connect as a user which is identified externally? The user exists on server and client side (os). The user was created in oracle "create user xyz identified externally ...". A local connect is successful.

Oracle 8.1.6, Solaris.

Thank you in advance,
