Character Set Trouble

I have an oracle 8.1.5 DB installed in a solaris environment. Unfortunatly I didn't define the $NLS_LANG environment variable at installation time. So currently the server-character-set is set to the default US7ASCII.

Until I've realized the error, we've already put pretty much of data in the DB.

I'm wondering now, if it's possible to move the Server-Charset from USASCII7 to WE8ISO8859P1 without having to re-install the whole database and refill all the data????

I've already tried to shutdown the DB, change $NLS_LANG to AMERICAN.WE8ISO8859P1 before startup, but this didn't help :(.

Thanks,
Patrik
