Oracle Network Administration

Here's a bizzare one.

I am trying to connect my client machine to a server running Oracle 8i (EE). When I try and create a new Service, I get an error :"Connecting...ORA-12638: Credential retrieval failed The test did not succeed."

The bizzare thing is that I have intermittantly gotten a "Test Succeeded" message.

I know that I have the service name and host name correct
I know I have the port (the standard TCP 1521) correct
Some co-workers are able to successfully connect with the same parameters

My Listner is also configured for TCP port 1521.

I'm about at the end of my rope. Can anyone suggest something it might be or something I might want to try?
