I have not get the excat same error, have gone through the problems in installing oracle 8.1.6 on linux red hat 6.2.

First inportant thing is that, have you configured your xwindows. and check that your VGA card in configuared. Because Oracle Universal installer require xwindoes fully confiured.

And for further instruction visit www.redhat.com, that site provide very good documentation on the oracle 8i installation.
