I still don't understand some things about Oracle Services for MTS, which I'll henceforth abbreviate OS4MTS.
I've installed it, and it appears to run, and I've read the OS4MTS installation guide. But still, I don't understand precisely when it is required. The Oracle installation guide seems to say that it's required when running applications through Microsoft Transaction Server to an Oracle database. But Oracle Support referred me to a Microsoft URL:
support.microsoft.com/support/complus/mtsandoracle.asp
which says that OS4MTS is NOT required, and should NOT even be installed, if you're using the Microsoft OLEDB/ODBC drivers with Oracle (!). Can someone, who knows exactly what's going on, confirm or deny this?
If it IS true, then should I use those Microsoft drivers, and avoid OS4MTS entirely? What are the pros/cons of Microsoft vs. Oracle drivers?
Is there an intelligent reason why OS4MTS is needed with one ODBC driver and not with another one? Does Oracle plan to do away with this in a future release?
