I hope this basical 'physical-logical' map of Oracle would help you (please, don't laugh about my "ascii art" eheeh...)
logical physical ------ --------- Database \|/ | Tablespace -----? Datafiles \|/ / | | / | Segment / | \|/ / | | / | Extension /|\ | \|/ | | /|\ Oracle Block ------? OS Block
I hope this would help you... so, then... a tablespace may contain several segments (rollback ones, tables, indexes, clusters, etc.) but they can be allowed more than one datafile (imagine the usage of a rollback segment, It's for managing transactions that maybe use much extensions, and they can be created in another datafile)...
... hmm... I think It's enough clear... let me know if you understand it... ;-)
