Visual Basic - ODBC - Long Raw data type

I am attempting to retrieve from, and update an Oracle 8 database using ODBC and Visual Basic. What is the easiest way to retrieve a long raw field and display it on form. I have attempted to use Getchunk and AppendChunk to retrieve it into a Variant datatype.

Does anyone have any suggestions on a. the easiest way to assign the bitmap field from the database to a control on a form. b. are getchunk and putchunk the best functions to be using ?
