How to set up ODBC via SunOS5.6-Oracle 8.0.5 and WinNt4.0?

How to set up ODBC via SunOS5.6-Oracle 8.0.5 and WinNt4.0?

Hi all,

This is particularly vexing, considering how easy this should be.

I want to be able to access my Oracle 8.0.5 Database (running fine on a Sun SunOS5.6 dedicated machine on the lan) from Windows NT 4.0 via ODBC and MS Access.

I need to know, what software do I need to setup (can I use the regular MS ODBC drivers with winNT4.0). , and how to config on both ends. Oracle helpfiles are detailed and vague at the same time, so not very useful at all I'm afraid, hopefully someone can help.

Details on my setup:
Server (on the lan):
-Oracle Server 8.0.5 installed on SunOs5.6 Sun box
-Net8 8.0.5 installed on same Sun box
-SQL-Net *NOT* installed (seems not to exist in Oracle 8?)
-DB is up, and running fine, can access data on Sun
 via SQLPlus

Client (on the lan):
-Windows NT4.0
-MS ODBC (3.0.28.22) installed
-MS Access installed

I would like to know how to get all this to work together, to read/write oracle data from MS access.

Also,
-Can I use the MS ODBC software that came with NT,
or am I required to use the Oracle one (for Oracle 8)?
-If I need the oracle one, how do I install it (I got
it from Oracle, but it assumed the DB runs on NT as well, not on the Sun..so this didn't work).

-In oracle 8, it seems that Sql*Net is gone, and is
replaced by 'net8'. Is this true?
-What else do I need to install on the server/client to
get this to work?

Thank you!
