Trusting Oracle?

Hello,

How trustworthy is Oracle? I am a pretty new DBA. I was wondering about all these scripts that automatically perform some task, such as coalescing a tablespace or something..........

I want to automate a lot of tasks and was wondering how safe it is to do this, what can go wrong???.......or should I do them manually?
