Pro*C compatibility

We have a Pro*C app running on DOS using SQL*Net v1. The server is 7.1. I need to port this to NT 4 and SQL*Net 2.3. After that, the server will be upgraded to 7.3.

I am unsure which version of Pro*C I need. I know that v8 uses the new Net8 instead of SQL*Net, but we have no Oracle8 stuff running here at all. Is Pro*C 8 going to be backward compatible with my v7 servers and SQL*Net, or do I need an older Pro*C? If so, what version?
