Required components for OCI application

After browsing through the DOCs, it is still not clear to me what the
required components are for an OCI client application (Oracle 8 for Windows
NT.).  How the OCI app will be able to resolve --for example-- the service
name passed onto OCILogon or OCIServerAttach.



Any help appreciated
