Exporting Oracle table to a plain ASCII file

I would like to know if an utility exists to dump the contents of an Oracle table to a plain ASCII file. If so, where can I get this utility? It would be ideal if this utility is bi-directional, i.e. Oracle table to an ASCII file and vice versa. I am aware of an IMPORT type command to populate a table with an ascii file, but the EXPORT command appears to use a special file (non-ASCII)

Any suggestions?

I am using Oracle 7.3.3 on an AIX environment.

If no such utility exist I am thinking of coding my own in Embedded SQL/C,
(which may take awhile!)
