Prioritizing connections

Does anyone know of a way to set differing priority levels on connections? The problem that we are seeing is that our processing system is not getting enough attention when a user is running a large query. We have checked the settings for optimizing the processing and they all appear to be ok. We would just like say that the processing system gets a higher priority and more attention.
