Runaway Process

I've heard about runaway processes, and I'm just curious what is the way
to kill them in the instance database. Also how do I monitor what the
database is doing, and how do I know which are runaway processes??



OWS 2.1 used to have this problem, and I don't know if 3.0 still has it.
Any help/comments will be appreciated.
