You're right, if you do a shutdown (without options means normal) Oracle waits till ALL transactions are commited or rollbacked, so you get a good chance that you go done do it.

I personally used the shutdown immediate for backups (the open xactions are rollbacked and the DB is consistent).

If you use shutdown abort, you must restarted the DB(restricted mode) and do an other shutdown (normal or immediate) to get a consistent DB. Received on Fri Nov 28 1997 - 00:00:00 CST
