Justin,

Thanks for the input.

Yes private and public addresses are assigned on separate network interfaces. Yes different network segments

But even if they were the same would they not show up anyway during the install process? The interface I want to use as private does not show up at all. How is the installer missing this?

Thanks

Make sure your private and public addresses are assigned to separate network interfaces, and that those interfaces are on different network segments. You might also want to run the CVU to see if it finds any problems with the configuration.

I am in the process of installing 12.1.0.2 on RedHat version 6.

I am installing Grid and I am in the Network Interface Usage screen in the installer.

I see eth0 my subnet and use for as public.

What I don’t see is

Eth0 192.xx.xx.xx.0 Private

The only interface the installer detects is my public interface. Why can’t I get the private interface to show?

I have this in my /etc/hosts for both nodes

192.192.111.18 node1.build-private.com<http://node1.build-private.com>
192.192.111.17 node2.build-private.com<http://node2.build-private.com>

Ifconfig –a shows the configuration

eth0:1 Link encap:Ethernet HWaddr 00:XX:XX:XX:XX:XX

          inet addr: 192.192.111.18 Bcast: 192.192.111.255 Mask:255.255.255.0
UP BROADCAST RUNNING MULTICAST MTU:1500 Metric:1

I did change the names and ip address for security purposes.

But my /etc/hosts and ifconfig seem to check out on both nodes.

Thoughts?
