I guess it depends on what you mean by ‘sensible’. Are we talking about upgrade from 10g here or about the full exam? Full exam for 12c is not there yet and I don’t know of any ETA. So if you plan doing the exam anytime soon, I guess there is not much of a choice. For the upgrade, however, I’d go straight for 12c. You just save yourself one exam and that 1k USD (or whatever is the price at your location). Though frankly, the 12c upgrade exam is very new and a bit raw and needs some a bit of polish.
