The DB version is 11.2.0.3. The real need is to find out LGWR switches on hourly basis. I can pull this information from the archive log view as well but I was curious to know if there was also a DB statistic available that can provide similar information.

Depends on what you're really trying to find and which version you're on.

"background checkpoints started" might be what you need.
