The issue got resolved, I tried to invoke the GUI this time and it was successful. During the installation after 86% completion, an error pops out stating....some thing below.
Error in invoking target 'mkldflags ntcontab.o of makefile '$ORACLE_HOME/network/lib/ins_net_client.mk'. see 'log for details
Then after few re-search, I found that re-installing the GCC-* packages would solve it, I asked the Unix SA to re-install the gcc packages and then the installation went fine. I was able to invoke the sqlplus.
