on a related note... the absolute best sql tuning book you can get is SQL Tuning by Dan Tow. Nothing else compares. Not sure if its an apress book. He uses venn diagrams to map out sql. Since sql is set based the venn diagrams help you see the SQL as sets. After a while you dont need to actually use the venn diagrams. I have found that using his method is by far the best way to explain sql tuning to developers. I think he was the top SQL Tuner at oracle for years. None of the other books have anything remotely like this. The content is 100% original. Nothing is from the docs or found anywhere else.
