Hi Rajendra,
That is precisely my problem ... the unix team did not include the autobackup files in their backups to tape so all my available controlfile backups are newer than the point-in-time I need ...

The controlfile you have is from a point in time newer than you need
You have to find a copy of the control file that is older - that is a
must
Once you have that then with any init/spfile mount the database and
attempt recovery
Otherwise you need a catalog - if you don't have a rman catalog then you must have an older copy of the controlfile - either restore it from autobackup or get a copy from somewhere you know to exist
