Either way you have to relink your homes and take care of those kernel specific RPMs (ocfs, powerpath, etc)
http://download.oracle.com/docs/cd/E11882_01/install.112/e22489/rem_orcl.htm#CWLIN348 The upgrade will keep you from doing the hairy task of finding/putting all of those Oracle related files back.
I would prepare a workplan for both tasks - reinstall and OS upgrade. Then you'll find out which requires more work, which is more efficient, less risk, etc.
