More information needed on indexes

I have few questions below to know the impact of it:

The difference between creating the indexes with or without degree. Any pointers for this topic please shoot.
The impact if indexes being changed from >1 to =1. Will there be any impact on the programs using those indexes.
The meaning of indexes with degree > 1.
